MADISON, Wis. — September 16, 2014 — Today, to support STEM in schools, Bill Nye “the Science Guy” unveils a new GEOSET recording studio for faculty, students and area teachers to create educational videos – science research, class projects, experiments and more – for educators around the world. The videos are recorded, edited, produced and broadcast live via Mediasite by Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted leader for video creation and management solutions.
GEOSET (Global Educational Outreach for Science, Engineering and Technology) is a student-run global education outreach program with roughly 50 participating institutions. Since 2006, GEOSET operated from a small studio, but due to high demand for the studio, GEOSET moved to a central location on Florida State University’s campus. The studio is free of charge for anyone to use Mediasite to quickly produce and upload videos, and there’s also a mobile Mediasite unit that can travel around campus. Bill Nye will officially open the studio and discuss the importance of science education.
“Mediasite is a reliable video platform that allows us to record and manage our presentations, and we know that it’s always going to work. It never lets us down,” said Dr. Steve Acquah, FSU Associate Research Professor of Chemistry and Director of GEOSET. “During my education there were always things I wanted to learn, experiments I wanted to do and processes I wanted to see. Now, it’s as easy as using Mediasite to capture everything.”
“We use Mediasite because it’s the best for doing dual capture for presentations. Mediasite dramatically speeds up our workflow and allows us to build rich content in our database efficiently. For us, that means reaching a global audience faster and providing consistent high quality material without tons of editing,” said Daniel Dominguez, student participant in GEOSET.

“With the universal medium of video, GEOSET is able to create a global classroom, bringing students and teachers together to improve science understanding and awareness,” said Gary Weis, Sonic Foundry CEO. “As our world becomes increasingly global, we’re proud to work with GEOSET to realize a shared vision of providing high quality education to every child.”
