Sonic Foundry Honors Winners of Rich Media Impact Awards for Video Innovation

Ninth annual program recognizes creative integration of Mediasite to improve work, education and outreach

MADISON, Wis. — April 29, 2013 — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted leader for video content management and webcasting solutions, today announced the winners of the ninth annual Rich Media Impact Awards, which honor excellence in the practical and creative integration of Mediasite in business, education, health and government.

Winners were honored at Unleash 2013 in Madison, Wis., and the awards ceremony can be viewed on-demand at www.sonicfoundry.com/finalists2013.

“This year’s awards program was the most competitive to date. Customers in education, government and the enterprise are increasingly becoming aware of the distinct advantage of using video to communicate, save money and increase productivity,” said Rob Lipps, executive vice president of Sonic Foundry. “We congratulate them on joining more than 150 organizations from around the world that have been honored with a Rich Media Impact Award.”

Global Reach Award: Australasian College of Health Service Management

“We have integrated Mediasite into a whole range of different aspects of our business and therefore it has allowed us to build participation, collaboration and better engagement from our members, our stakeholders and also our own staff.” ~Daryl Sadgrove, CEO of Australasian College of Health Service Management

Innovation Award: National Institute for Trial Advocacy

“Our goal is to increase our distance learning capabilities to include even more online programming on different topics. Mediasite for me means innovation. It gives us the freedom to try new things and reach more attorneys nationwide. Our online program via Mediasite will only get bigger from here, and we’re looking forward to experimenting with more online courses and webcast series in 2013.”~Wendy Velez, Associate Executive Director of Operations for National Institute for Trial Advocacy

Outcomes Award: The Aerospace Corporation

“Our workforce is geographically dispersed. We go from the east coast to the west coast and everywhere in between, and trying to manage that workforce through different training efforts was very difficult. Before Mediasite we had a lot of live instructor training with all those limitations but now we can capture and distribute content. It also enabled us to build a repository of video, MP3, PDF. That repository is downloadable across our workforce. That’s very powerful.”~Al Hoheb, principal engineer for the Aerospace Corporation

Prolific Use Award: University of Florida

“Transitioning to Mediasite helped to alleviate many problems with technical inconsistencies.  Before Mediasite our students watched lectures. Now they experience lectures.” ~Brian Smith, IT Specialist, University of Florida

Rapid deployment: Duke University School of Medicine

“By September 2012 we had 3,340 views on 150 Mediasite presentations. Five months later in February 2013, there were over 12,000 views on 732 presentations. A rapid deployment yes it was. But the best is yet to come as Mediasite moves to desktop recording.” ~ Sharon Kaiser, educational technologist at Duke University School of Medicine

Video in Education Scholarship Winners:

Clemson University, Department of Public Health Sciences

“Mediasite has helped expand our education across campus. I’ve seen a 50% increase in number of courses I can offer with this new methodology. Student satisfaction remains high as Mediasite promotes an engaged learning experience and is meeting the interest of a new generation of learner.”~Ralph Welsh, professor, Clemson University

University of Cincinnati

“We saw an opportunity to provide content in a way that was engaging and accessible by using video. We use Mediasite to record small lectures of our faculty and staff on engineering topics such as what is engineering, what is mechanical engineering? What is the engineering design process? We can make these available to the students and schools at their convenience – as often as they want.” ~Eugene Rutz, academic director in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University of Cincinnati

Trusted by more than 2,600 customers worldwide in education, business and government, the Mediasite webcasting and video content management system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of live and on-demand streaming videos and rich media presentations.
