LAS VEGAS, Nev. UBTech booth 301/InfoComm Booth C5421— June 07, 2016 — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted global leader for video creation and management solutions, today announced a new partnership with OSHEAN, Inc. a research and education network (REN) to more than 150 leading schools and community anchor institutions in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Mediasite is the premier video platform in a suite of services offered through OSHEAN’s new Video Commons 2.0 program.
Members of OSHEAN, which stands for the Ocean State Higher Education Economic Development and Administrative Network, can connect any number of Mediasite Recorders to OSHEAN’s central private video cloud powered by Mediasite. This provides an economical, yet scalable infrastructure to record, deliver and manage video content.
Providence College, University of Rhode Island and Naval War College are among the early adopters in the program, with a combined 20,000 students now using Mediasite. Several more schools anticipate starting their Mediasite programs in the fall.
“The University of Rhode Island is integrating Mediasite video into our course instruction to provide an engaging learning experience to help students learn at their own pace,” said David Porter, director of media and technology services, University of Rhode Island.
OSHEAN’s medical community also has plans to implement Mediasite for nurse training, continuing medical education courses, patient education and telemedicine applications.
“The selection of Sonic Foundry is resonating throughout our membership,” said Allan Ramella, Senior Product Manager with OSHEAN. “The Mediasite product was chosen after an extensive evaluation and is being implemented as a private cloud service directly on OSHEAN’s Beacon 2.0 fiber network. The robust Mediasite architecture stands up to the comprehensive set of requirements of our diverse member base.”
“At Sonic Foundry, we are focused on empowering every person and organization to share knowledge more effectively through video. By joining forces with OSHEAN we are providing an unmatched scalable and secure enterprise video solution for member organizations to instantly launch their video deployments. As a result the use of video for flipped classrooms, training, continuing medical education and telemedicine is rapidly increasing in New England schools and non-profits,” said Gary Weis, CEO, Sonic Foundry.
“We applaud OSHEAN’s early success as we continue to create solutions that drive better communication and collaboration for our customers, and lead to meaningful, measurable business outcomes,” Weis continued.
