MADISON, Wis. — April 23, 2012 — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted market leader for lecture capture, enterprise and event webcasting, continues its Coast-to-Coast technology partnership with the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) by using Mediasite to webcast the ninth annual Sloan-C Blended Learning Conference and Workshop held this week in Milwaukee, Wis.
This is the second consecutive year Sloan-C employed a blended or hybrid conference model to the Blended Learning Conference and workshop, which takes place April 23-24. Themed “Perfecting the Blend,” the conference and workshop aims to improve the state of education by blending the student experience through practice and research while harnessing the potential of new and emerging technologies, pedagogies, and practices. Sloan-C expects about 180 of the more than 650 attendees, plus 27 institutions streaming up to 100 people each, to do so remotely via Mediasite.
“We are pleased to continue our partnership with Sonic Foundry to bring the Blended Learning conference to a much larger audience in real time,” said Bruce Chaloux, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sloan-C. “Making our conference a hybrid event last year proved to increase attendance, and the on-demand archived sessions can be viewed by our members shortly after the event – anywhere, anytime. Last year 81 of the 416 attendees participated remotely via webcasts. We anticipate that number increasing this year with overall attendance expected to exceed 650.”
Select sessions will be broadcast live via Mediasite 6, allowing online audiences to view the sessions live or on-demand via their desktop or mobile devices, including iPads, iPhones, iPods, BlackBerrys and Androids. The sessions will also be available for on-demand viewing after the conference to registered onsite and remote attendees.
“Because this conference, and the community who attends, is devoted to the purposeful, strategic and comprehensive approach to blended teaching and learning, it’s only fitting that we’re modeling this behavior during the conference itself, offering educational sessions via Mediasite which not only reach attendees online, but let all attendees watch again on-demand,” said Tanya Joosten, conference chair.
Sean Brown, Vice President of Education at Sonic Foundry, will be a featured speaker, presenting “Reaping the Benefits of Lecture Capture: Large Scale ROI for Large Scale Deployments.”
Trusted by more than 1,000 colleges and universities, the patented Mediasite webcasting and video content management system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of live and on-demand streaming videos and rich media presentations that combine video with slides.
