University of Bristol Selects Mediasite by Sonic Foundry for Lecture Capture and Video Content Management

United Kingdom-based school plans campus-wide deployment of Mediasite Enterprise Video Platform

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands (ISE stand # 3-A134) — February 05, 2015 — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted global leader for video creation and management solutions, today announced the University of Bristol selected Mediasite Enterprise Video Platform for lecture capture and video content management.

Prior to deploying Mediasite in the summer of 2014, the university was using several solutions that lacked integration with its Blackboard learning management system, ease of use for faculty and the ability to both capture and manage its lecture content in a single solution.

“Mediasite was the most robust, reliable solution for us,” said Carla Hill, project manager, Strategic Projects Office. “We saw the new campus-wide Mediasite deployment at the University of Leeds and wanted to create a similar lecture capture program at Bristol. Mediasite’s ability to not only capture all our lecture content but also store, manage and publish it across multiple channels was a huge selling point for us.”

Because the initiative leverages Mediasite Enterprise Video Platform, all content is searchable, secure and managed in one place. Currently, the university is piloting Mediasite in 14 lecture halls and plans a wider rollout in September.

Additionally, all lecturers participating in the Early Adopter Programme have access to My Mediasite Desktop Recorder, allowing them to create and share videos, lectures and assignments from any device and location.

“Lecturers and students enjoy Mediasite a great deal. Students were keen for a solution that allowed them to review lectures on-demand, and faculty needed an automated system that didn’t vastly change the way they taught,” Hill said. “What’s so great about Mediasite is that the Recorders are reliable and do all the work for you.”

Michael Barton, Faculty of Engineering, said Mediasite isn’t intrusive in his classroom and is very easy to use.

“What I really like about Mediasite is that all I have in my room is a red light and a red button. The red light comes on two minutes before lectures start, and we don’t even notice it’s there. That’s brilliant,” he said.

“Many institutions like University of Bristol in the United Kingdom have taken notice of how University of Leeds transformed teaching and learning for faculty and students with Mediasite. They’ve seen the success that comes with providing a scalable, flexible, personalized approach to learning,” said Gary Weis, Sonic Foundry CEO. “In just six months the University of Bristol has created an impressive number of rich media presentations. We’re honored to partner with Bristol for its campus-wide lecture capture and video content management initiative.”
